CJ7 on YJ7 Hardtop questions

I have a 1989 YJ7, I purchased a CJ7 Hardtop and doors. The rear liftgate is bad. I read an earlier post and now find that the liftgate are different because of the tailgate. If I buy a new one, should I buy a CJ7 or will the YJ7 liftgate fit on the CJ7 hardtop. Is the top hinge mounts the same. Or if I repair the CJ7 liftgate, what issues will I have. Please help.

What do you mean by "bad"? Is the gate broken or just the hinges? Does it just need a new seal? Is the glass gone? A little more detail will help us help you. Pics would also help in diagnoses.

Its rusted out bad. I know I can replace the parts. But was wondering if the YJ7 liftgate will mount in the same hole as the CJ7 top. If not, then will the CJ7 liftgate work on a YJ7.

There may be others out there...this was just the first to hit on my search.

The Yj and Cj liftgates are not interchangeable. You will have to use a Cj liftgate on your Cj hardtop

What would be a suggestion for using a YJ hardtop with a CJ tailgate? Wanting to make sure everything seals as the hardtop would be used in the colder weather and I don't want to lose all the heat or get exhaust inside.
