CJ7 rides rough, what to do.

jbabb, an soa has different load requirements than sua. So you might want to consider a springpack designed just for soa. Which probably means getting a custom set made.

Besides the custom makers RE makes a 1 1/2" lift SOA spring set.
I don't have any idea how the ride is though.

I pulled a leaf from the rear suspension spring pack...... now my kidneys have stopped aching. I run 20-22 lbs in 35X12.50's.

Ive never been a big fan of pulling or adding a leaf. We can joke about engineers all we want but your springs are designed to work best with the amount of leaves they came with. Im not bashing you at all I just wonder how happy you will be with them a year or so from now. Glad you chimed in with your tire pressures. My 35s are at 30 lbs right now and Im going to bring them down to 25 and ajust accordingly thereafter. :chug:

You want soft, find some used yj springs, they can be had from free to $50 set in my area. They won't last long on the trial, but as mentioned "I don't get on it too hard that much and hardly every offroad".

I have a CJ7 and a yj with soa on stock yj springs..they ride smoother than cj springs

I would agree that is true, if the spring is engineered right. But there are a lot of springs that are just way to heavy for our cj's out there that would probably never miss a leaf.

Well looks like used yj springs it is. Hopefully I can find some cheap. Gonna do some reading to see what all I need to swap them over too. I know wider shackles in the front but what else?

Rocky road sells a conversion to yj springs for $80 includes hardware and everything! :)

Ok here is a new twist on my story. When I bought the jeep the previous owner gave me ALOT of extra parts with it. I just put it all behind the shop and covered it up years ago and forgot all about it til today. In that parts pile are two axles that I believe to be wide track axles. I am not totally sure but they seem to measure out about right. I took a picture hoping someone on here would know more about it than me. I am guessing with the axles sitting for so long they will probably need to be gone through if I do use them. Since the spring perches are still on the bottom, I am thinking buy some 4" lift springs and mount the wider axles. Any opinions?

Iwould say you are right on the axles. I would think all that would be needed is a oil change, check brakes and service the hubs.

Ok good deal. I was hoping someone could identify the axles based on those pictures. I will try to get exact measurements sometime soon.
