I need to replace the old lap belts in my CJ. I want to replace them with a belt that has a should strap. I want to do this because I think it would make my passengers feel more secure. I like those 3 pt seat belts by Beams with the latch release.

Any thoughts? Its a CJ so should I do the Retractable or Non-retractable 3 pt system?

IMHO I like the old style latch type the use on the early GT350 & Cobra.
The reason, is the exposed mechanism is not susceptible to dirt & sand issues like the push button style lap & 5 point.;)

This style is fine for a race car, but is problematic in a Jeep.

I've seen people get caught & have to be cut out!!!!
No:censored: Bueno.

PS: You can go with lap,4 ,5 or 6 point with either setup.:D

I will 100% agree with Long horn. I use RJS harness in my bucket of bolts. The exposed buckle is easier to slap closed, and pull open, and they can be unclipped and removed easily for cleaning, inspection, or replacement.

morris 4x4 has a selection of belts, I am going to go 4 belt in teh CJ5 and they have both styles

I've had a competition 4 point system in my CJ since I bought it. It has the open latch system and I like it. I only use the lower belts unless I'm in a race, then its all 4 latched up.
Not extremely comfortable over a rough road, but it won't tighten down like a retractable system can, and it can be released with one quick movement.
