1984 CJ-7 (just bought it, so I have to do some work and see what it has in it.. other than 4.2L Auto.. 4" lift, 33" tires... my '75 had a 304 2" Burbank supspension, warn winch, full cage, all the goodies, the '79 had a 401 turbo charged hi-po with t98 or 18, which ever one had the granny low first gear (never can remember which).. had all the items needed to 4wheel, none of the show and go poopie.. I don't believe "chrome will get you home"! I'm also not one to go out to see if I can tear up my jeep, I go where I must, usually with a group that I hung with.. Used to be part owner in Diablo Off Road Center in Concord California.. Jack Essex owned Diablo 4WD, George Clause was Mr. Base CAmp, and mine was "Sounds Etc" all under one big roof "the Diablo Off Road Center"..
getting the clock out of the dash is just short of impossible without removing the dash from the jeep... somehow, the light bulb fixture came apart, dropped the bulb and another part down in the clock, that's why it quit.. I've been trying 3 days to get a bulb to fit, but something was blocking it, and guess what? these bulbs are not magnetic, so sticking a small magnet in does no good.. next thing I guess is something on a skinny stick like a large toothpick with some reallllllllly sticky stuff on the end and see if I can ensnare it in the goop? otherwise, looks like it will just be a dark clock!

Doing any work behind the dash is very frustrating. I usually have trouble with the bulb coming out and dangling behind the dash. I've never been unlucky enough to have it fall into a gauge or clock.
Sorry I don't have an easy solution.

well, tried everything sticky I could think of, nothing brought it out.. so, once again, upside down feet over the seat, unsightly position, head under the dash, arms contorted, I unscrewed the nuts on the mount, unplugged everything I could to get close to it, slid it out the front, dumped light bulb out, found the metal piece that went around the lamp holder to get the ground, monkey glued (gorrilla super glue) it back on, then a little oil on the gears of the clock ... contorted myself again, put it all back.. ugly job ... someone else should do it.. also while I was there, I put in the flashing LED to announce "TAILGATE HATCH OPEN".. now, what next.. oh yeah, put my radio back.. while I was under all this contortion I put in a grounding strip, tied direct to the negative terminal of the BAT, then to the Firewall with a star washer, then to the under dash with another star washer.. that's why the radio was out.. whoopee..

Sounds like you had quite a day, go soak in the tub :D
