I'm not familiar with what a manual clutch is supposed to feel like. When I bought mine and drove it home the clutch seemed to disengage after about an inch of travel and was able to shift after a few inches. What I was wondering about was the pedal continuing quite some distance before it hits the floor. It also doesn't go in to 2nd very easily. Almost like the gate is off or something. needs a good push on the shifter.

What you described as far as clutch pedal travel sounds right. My 73 was similar.

As far as shifting hard into second. There is no gate. You have shift forks. Its possible that a synchro is worn out. I honestly don't know what else would cause that if the clutch is working properly. If the clutch is being depressed too far it can cause problems....maybe try pushing the pedal not quite to the floor and shift.

:agree:

I have the T-15 , which is what i assume you have.

And the clutch travel you describe sounds same (1" freeplay before engaging resistance on the pedal etc) and i also think JasonMark is correct on his suggested possibilities also.
