Hello. I just posted my problems with my introduction. If anyone has advice on clutch and bell crank problems, please see that post. Thanks.

It's probably best if you repost your question / problem in a new thread here under the "drivetrain" forum, otherwise few will see it. It also won't come up in a search within the drivetrain forum.

Welcome aboard. Fairly new here myself.

I just replaced the clutch on my '76 CJ5 with a Napa clutch kit. The pressure plate is the diaphragm type instead of the three finger type. The included throwout bearing is the same size as the original. I also replaced the bell crank and adjusting rod because the old one was worn and popped apart after assembly. With the new parts in, the bell crank popped apart with hand pressure to the clutch pedal while the Jeep was on the hoist. I had to replace broken tranny mounting bolts during assembly, but can't imagine returning the tranny to its intended position would move it out of alignment. The jeep is not lifted.

Can anyone offer some advice?

Thanks.

I also wanted to know how to correctly put the clips on the bell crank bushings. Any pictures?

Re: clutch or bell crank problems - solution

No one responded, but I'll tell you what happened. When I took off the crossmember to pull the tranny, the frame must have spread apart. I cut the new bell crank in half and added two inches to it. It works perfectly now.

Re: clutch or bell crank problems - solution

Interesting about your finding that spread out frame. About that bellcrank, it should be perpendicular to the frame and the ends for the bellcrank should be in line also, horizontally. otherwise it can pop out. If the rear motor mounts are bad, it will usually push the engine/tranny to the rear and cause the bellcrank to go out of alignment. I think that bellcrank layout was a pretty poor design.
