Anyone order remanufactured engine from them? I am wondering how their quality is compared to jasper and ATK etc... I might be after a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l long block in the next year.

Collins bros is just up the road from me and I have been in there place a few times. I do not recall seeing a machine shop. I would have to guess they are buying them from someone and shipping it to you.

This is something I would search for locally. there are small machine shops/engine builders just about every where, with good reputations and no shipping charges.

Totally agree with this statement. Search for something local. You'll be able to save yourself some money that you can use for upgrades to the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l or elswhere while you have it out.

Gotcha! But, mine has been rebuilt before so i am not 100% sure it can take another rebuild. I might have no choice.

Just keep an eye out. With all the people doing V8 swaps AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 's come up for sale and are usually cheap. I'd buy one and have it rebuilt before I'd get anything from CB. They're quite proud of what they have. Good for hard to find parts, but dang they're high on prices. AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 's aren't rare, so watch your local CL.

Good idea. I would like to just rebuild mine but not sure if it can be rebuilt. it is running great now but if i am going to tear it down and rebuild the Jeep, then might as well do the drive train as well.

To bad you are not in Portland CT because I have a spare AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l in my garage that haas never been touched.

Hey kane,

What price were you looking to get? I assume it's totally rebuildable right?

Um, are you in Portland CT? Otherwise a cross country shipment would be pricy. I would bet you could find many of them out there.

If your AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l is running well, not smoking or knocking it does not need to be fixed/rebuilt. spend money someplace where it is needed.

Those were my thoughts exactly, just needs a new VC gasket to stem the flow of good motor oil, then I took off said VC.....:eek::eek:.

Now the past is in the past, kinda.
