I have been looking for ideas for setting up my new garage and found this site. I thought you guys might like it. Take a look in the garage gallary subforum and there is a thread about people Jeeps. some of the garages are completely insane and there are alot of great ideas that I plan on using.

Is your garage built and you want to pimp it out, or do you need suggestions like...

Build a 30x40 shop and a 60x80 garage? ROFL

Personally, I have 2-30'x30'x 14'ceiling garages & 50'x50' shop.:D

and now I feel smaller... just finished a 30x40 garage next to the shop... has a loft as well, on top of the 12 foot ceilings... need to save up $$ to insulate/sheetrock it so I can work more in there in the winter... shop is good for now, but more room is always better.

Most people I know, their garages are more like storage units & they park outside. Down here in south central Texas we don't get a lot of snow.

I actually park in my garage. Instead of "Sheetrock"or wallboard, think about finishing the interior with plywood. Not only is it stronger you can hang stuff or put shelves any where you want. That's what I did.;)

I do have a "Pot Bellied Stove" in my shop though.;)

That would really open up the ease of attaching hangers and such. Plywood would cost a whole lot more money than drywall though.

When I built mine there was a Wallboard shortage, so the price was closer.
You still get a huge benefit in strength, not to mention utility.

Be advised I am at work and very bored so this is a bit of a ramble.

I found this to be a very interesting site and provided insite into the thought processes of the truly anal retentive and OCD. The 70 post thread about the “retro” qualities of trays vs. bars for socket storage and the best colors to paint the walls, catagorized by what brand roll arround tool box you owned.
There was a rather interesting thread on choice of floresent lighting but it was a bit simplistic.
I have 3/8 ply on my walls up to 4 feet just because I leaned some rather heavy things up against the wall and put holes in the sheet rock. And the attic is insulated, if you live in Texas and don’t have a couple of feet of insulation in the ceiling I doubt you spend much time in your garage. I believe that creepers roll better on polished concreat than they do on tile.
I have been thinking about some posters for the walls, right now all I have in a large tap/drill and decimal chart over lathe and I do feel the walls need a bit more color to them.
I spent a couple of hours in here last night and saw a lot of places that should have been articles in Archetectural digest or better homes and garages, thanks for sharing this site Kane.

longhorn what type of 30x30 building do you have?? I am contemplating steel buildings of that size.

Kane, please expound! You said you found some usefull ideas for your shop, what did you find that was usefull to you?? I have to say I found nothing that would contribute to the comfort or efficency of my shop.

I guess I have a problem relating to guys with machinery you just drive and wax.

The 2-30'x30' are my garages, they are brick like my house with overhead rollup doors. The 50'x50' shop is a metal building with sliding doors.

so far it is the least expencive way to keep rain off a concreat slab I have found.
