well this is a little bit of a rant, i'll start off by saying that i have a flex fan on my jeep and i started looking for a shroud the other day, well it turns out they are pretty hard to find and are pretty expensive new. so i got to thinking that i'd just go ahead and do the contour fan swap thinking i would get away with spending $20-$40 on a set of used fans, WRONG. every single junkyard i called today wanted $75 + for a set of used 13-14 year old fans. what the hell happened to going to a junkyard and getting good used parts at an affordable price? everything is evidently made of gold these days

I feel your pain. Just to keep things in perspective call the dealer and get a price on a new one.
I pretty much go to the pull your part yards, the fan is more like $40 and it is a lot more fun to pull it your self, you get all the hardware and relays and connectors.

thats the thing all of the junkyards around here generally let you pull your own parts unless they have em already sitting on a shelf. its just ridiculous man, and heres something else that makes no sense to me. my buddy just bought an 8.8 exploder rearend for his tj. the jy charged him $125 for the axle complete, i call the very same jy this morning and they want $85 for electric fans. how do fans even come close in price to a complete rearend?

What the traffic will bare?? Maybe he has 15 axles and the 2 fans?? Those fans are not an endangered species.

supply and demand.
You guys are lucky the yards here won't let you past the front door. And you don't know how they are going to remove something, usually with a torch or a BFH.

I tend to be in a lucky town :D we only have 1 junkyard that doesnt let you pull your own parts but that is the biggest junkyard in town and they do a good job of taking off the parts, the other 5 or 6 are all pull you own parts. I guarantee i could most likely get a set of fans for 20-40 dollars hell some of them i could probably just walk outta there ;) not saying i would. I need to go to the junkyard and grab me a power steering unit i can use on my CJ7 .

yep power steering is on my long to do list, and power brakes are on there to

Well when i picked up my tub, the guy was kind enough to through in the power brake booster probably from a jeep maybe even my 84 tub, i could have grabbed a new steering column to and probably alot more, only wish i could have taken his scrambler with me, i already told the bride to be that when i pay my truck off the next loan im taking out is on a Scrambler, I MUST OWN ONE, sorry for the rant lol. i have a long to do list like starting the body work on my tub etc etc...

You get better prices when you visit the JY at night, LOL.
I do agree they want some pretty pennies for those contour fans.
Checked on taurus fans?
The contour fans are better and dual, but the taurus is an option.

body work will probably come along this summer in my spare time i only have one spot of rust on the outside to fix a few small dents, and it needs floor pans in the front

I lucked out my tub only has surface rust but a nice dent in the passenger side fender and a little ripple on the driver side corner tail light. but i want to get my jeep going and getting along as soon as possible.

good thing about jeep tubs is they are fairly straight, not a whole bunch of compound curves to get right when your trying to do body work. that makes it a whole lot easier. i had a s-10 with stepside bed that got hit right behind the taillight that was about the hardest thing i've ever had to straighten out

that is because they have hundreds of 8.8 rear ends, from every Exploder that is in there, and no one wants them but guys who cannot afford a Dana 44 so they get a cheap Ford axle and get puzzled when it blows like the D35 they replaced. I mean if the axle was any good would they sell it for 125 clams.
However, everyone and his brother are looking for electric fans to replace the flex fans in their vehicles, so they are a hot topic because you go through 3 to find the 4 that has no cracks in the blades or shroud.
Supply and demand.

Grab a part# off a contour fan and have napa or autozone do a cross reference for which other vehicles ran the same fan. I know some mercuries did and a few others but can't recall models and years at this time.

Also check out a mustang fan on summit, sometimes they have the 2000+cfm ones in stock for cheap.
You'll need to double check dimensions of course.

Did your figures consider the ground sirloin and barbiturates for the pit bulls??

i do see some scrapyards policy at them pulling the parts as ive seen guys smash a dash to get some bulbs out and break a lot of parts to pull of the bit they need but scrap is a multy million dollar buisness they pay less than scrap steel prices for a whole vehicle then sell each part for 2/3 the price of a new part then scrap whats left and still get more than they origionally paid for it here they even charge you sales tax on each part go figure but im still amazed at the price of plastic parts
