I have been having trouble with my cowl seal leaking so I thought I would replace it. Looking at the new seal I bought and the seal that is in the jeep already I am wondering if the po installed the current one *** backwards. I have been searching this wonderful site and have read a lot of helpful advice but I am having trouble finding any usefull pictures. Here are pictures of what I am looking at currently. Is this correct?

Here is another picture. After pulling a stick out of the defrost tube, I noticed a lump of what seems like gasket material (sqwishy stuff) between the two defrost holes. Is that supposed to be there?

Well , it was definately installed backwards backwards. That round edge should be toward the front of the cowl , not inside above your dashboard.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I am heading out right now to put the new one in correctly.

Im pretty sure its still going to leak. The p.o. cut it in two spots to attach the windshield brackets. :(

Well, I got the brand new seal in (correctly) and when I finish a few other "minor" things, I will put the top back on and see how it handles Oregon in the fall. Thanks for the help.

LOL I think the same guy previously owned both of our CJs. :)
