Heres a craigslist scammer for you all to enjoy. Id post my reply but it would have to be in The Adventurers Club section.

make final reconfirmation of it and also to let you know that
payment will be by certified Money Order or check . In view of this
I need you to email me any information that may be required to send
the payment , as I do not want to send the payment to a wrong location
lest they gets into the wrong hands.
Regarding the shipping, I have a company that takes care of the pick
up of my consignments for me and ship to my destination anywhere in
the U.S.A. ,you do not worry about shipping, the company will send
down a representative to arrange the Sales documentation and the pick
up from your end for onward transfer to my destination.
I also want to alert you on the fact that you will be receiving an
overdraft payment ,
which will cover the money for the pickup (pickup and shipping to the
final destination) as well as the money to be paid to the company that
will take care of the pickup and the documentation with you. So
please, as soon as you receive the payment , go and cash them
immediately, deduct the money that accrues to you cost of this Item
and take a compensation of $50 for stress making you go through, and
you will send the rest balance to the Head Office of the company that
handles the shipment via the nearest Western Union agent in your area.
Deduct the Western Union charges from the balance and send the
remaining immediately .
The payment will be in your name to make it easier f or you to receive
payment, deduct your money and send the balance via Western Union as
regards my earlier direction, please reconfirm your details one more
time.
I will give you the details of the company that you will send t!he balance of
the money to once I get a reply and agreement that you will send the
money via Western Union money transfer immedia tely you cash the
payment .
Once the money is received by the agent, the shipping agent will
contact you immediately to arrange the documentation as well as the
pick up immediately.

so, he will send a bad check for you to cash on your account and you then send him most of it . This works until the check bounces and the bank deducts said amount from your account.
Have I got this right??
A fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place.

Wasn't through CL, but I have a $4000 "cashier's check" from a supposed buyer for some of the wife's artwork. The whole thing looked reasonable until the "check" came in a plain envelope with no return address, and was for $4000 instead of the $800 sale price. The 'check' looks legitimate, and was drawn on a major bank. Suspecting a scam, I took it in to our local bank to check it out. They made some calls, and though they wouldn't out right say it was phony, they said there were "issues", and recommended I report it to the FBI and Treasury Dept Secret Service. I did, and got a little surprise. They said, since I had not shipped anything, no charges could be filed! That's like saying a guy who walks into a bank and demands their cash can't be charged unless they give it to him.
Anyway, I've still got the check as a reminder.

I once inquired about a too-good-too-be-true CJ on craigslist. Ex wife dumping the CJ that was part of a settlement (you know the type).

Wish I still had the Email, but my request for a test drive was replied to with a letter like Pete's virtually confirming the sale and delivery. I just added the person to my block list. Sadly, as previously stated, these things work all the time.
