My belt came off the other day and I noticed this rubber flat belt on the crankshaft pulley, it was broken. My crankshaft pulley has no V shape to it , is this a common thing ?

My Jeep is a 74 CJ5 with AMC 232 i6 motor. I looked up pictures of the crankshaft pulley online for sale and could not find anything like this.

Well to me looks like your harmonic balancer came apart on you in the 2nd picture , that piece of rubber in the middle of balancer ,

Yep it came apart. Go to the parts store and buy a new one and install it.:)
Not uncommon .My son replaced the one on his '92 GC wagon 4.0 about
3 mos ago. mike

check morris 4x4 or summit/jegs, parts are easy online if you have the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , not sure about the amc v-8 line.

Confusing ..... Hasn't this already been answered? Why the new thread?

Hope you are able to get your part.

I tried Advance Auto and NAPA website - no harmonic balancers

Gary, may be some bad news ahead.I did a search for the part you require and no luck.Seems that the 242ci and AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ci are different.I did find a listing in the DORMAN line but it was the same # as the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . The AMC 232 i6 may be one of those hard to find parts for.Maybe nos at a jeep dealer.Good luck to you.Like they say "it's never easy" :( Mike S.

Hmmmm interesting on the pictures

Summit Racing lists one that looks like it might be the right part.
same price as Crown about $88. There ya go! mike s.:)

Hope this will help you out ... found this site when looking for oil pump bypass stuff Engine click on master parts catolog then eingine and scroll down about 1/4 way down there is your balancer for your AMC 232 i6 according to this 199 ,AMC 232 i6 and AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l are the same balancer ?

I have the AMC 232 i6 engine

Gary, the one listed from summit racing was for a AMC 232 i6 . BTW I had a 1973 w/AMC 232 i6 that I bought new.Ran that thing hard in closed circuit obstacle courses around NW. Modified w/ Clifford research 4 bbl intake and 390 cfm holley and header.Never had any trouble with it.Stout little motor.Sold it to a guy in our club that put it in a 3b high hood.Really! hope you get it figured out. Mike S.:)

I found one from Damper Doctor, who rebuilds these things out west . He came highly recommended . I just now find out that the 72 73 74 75 all used different part numbers but the part should interchange. This is the first Ive heard of the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l part working.
