A driver of a Nissan Xterra was cited with DUI after he ran into a Jeep and then left the trail, went down a steep embankment and crashed into a rock gully.

Although the driver was allegedly drunk the paper also says there may have been a mechanical issue with the Xterra. The Xterra driver was honking as a warning before he hit the Jeep. I hope to get more info in the next few days. I find this article confusing. The Durango Herald said the "Jeep’s occupants, were eating lunch and not in the Jeep" but they also go on to say that "Three of the four occupants in the Jeep were taken by helicopter to Telluride Regional Medical Center." If they were not in the jeep I don't know how they got injured.
Actually the Durango Herald updates their web site often. They may clarify this story.
Black Bear Pass is one of the trails we'll be going on during the Jeep-CJ trail ride next month.
