curious what everyone is running, final drive ratio, tire size, terrain, and if they like it, or want lower. im in the process of swapping Transmission out, and trying to figure out if i need to drop in some new t case gears while im at it....

Hey where in Socal are you?

Im out in El Centro.

Most modded jeeps end up with 4.88s and 33s or something close.

I have 5.38s (set up for drag race as well as wheeling) with 33s and I can idle around in 4th gear in low range.

Do you know what gears you have in the axles?

75.5. (6.32, 2.62, 4.56) Manual tranny. I ended up about where everyone that does rock recommended for a manual. Moderate and some hard core trails.

When I was stock and in building phase, I went throught u-joints, driveshafts, axle shafts, trannys and yokes. Seemed like something on almost every trip. Now I rarely even break a u joint and crawl through some decent stuff.

I have considered the 4to1 Dana 300 gears (would be at 115) but not sure I want to add more torque as I will most likely hit another breaking phase.

Im in Salton City, not far from you, truckheaven is my back yard, anyways, I have 4.56 in my axles, I installed them a few months ago, im swapping in a np435 Transmission with a 6.68 first gear, but even with that I only have a 61:1 final drive ratio, if i swap in the tera low kit in the t case, it will get me to 95:1, just not sure if its low enough, probably just run it the way it is, and see what its like. thats why i was wanting to know what everyone else is running

this is what I was looking for, I dont think my 61:1 is going to be sufficient....

61 will be a good difference and decent. That and the hand throttle since I run a Carb made a huge difference for me. Its great not having to force it to get through obstacles.

61:1 is very solid and provides some flexibility that some of the super low ratios do not. Many of the rigs running those mega ratios are tiny-engined imports that require such gearing where a more powerful engine does not. You can certainly go too low and increase your breakage issues due to torque multiplication and wind up with a huge " no man's land" gap between high and low range. The 435 should help with that as it offers flexibility that an auto without a full manual valve body cannot.

Remember to factor tire height into the equation.

With 4.10s, Stock Dana 300 , T-176 , and 33s I am at 41.03:1.
I haven't had a chance to really wheel it, but I am coming from a 27.23 ratio, which was the worst thing EVER. The only thing I would consider doing would be a 4:1 Dana 300 gear change, which would get me to 62.65:1. I think that would be great and I would still have the T-176 's good street characteristics. My buddies want me to get a T-18a. In my current set-up that would put me at 67.89:1.
For comparison sake, a STOCK 2012 Rubicon has a crawl ratio of 73.1:1

i think im going to try it at the 61:1 first, if need be i can change out the t case gears later on
