dauntless 225 timing chain?

my Dauntless Buick 225 V6 is starting to make a ticking noise that sounds outa the distributor. . . from what ive read its actually a worn timing chain an sprockets.

want to switch to roller style chain and steel sprockets, so my question is have any of you done this and does a roller style chain eliminate the need for a tensioner or do i still need it

I had the timing chain break on my 225 about 6 years ago. I replaced it with a roller chain. It was a very easy straight forward job and I had to problems. Line of the marks and put it together. I really don't remember at this point in time if I used tensioner or not.
