Death and Taxes

We all know both are inevitable and if your here then you haven't died... So - how about the other? Today and tomorrow is my 'tax' day.

Do you all do your own (if so what if any software do you use) or do you have it done?

Just curious.

we use Turbo tax, or I should say, the wife uses Turbo tax. Tried H&R BLock a few times, didn't like the holier then thou attitude.

My wife and I are both self employed and use an accountant.

My wife is a CPA so I have my own accountant. That can be good and bad.

I am getting mine on April 1st. We are having a new guy do ours. He is also redoing last years for us. Last year, we filed separately because we were separated. And now he owes (still, after making payments all year) $11,000. I got a refund last year... my bad. Anyway, the new guy said that with what has been paid in, we might be wiped clean. Oops.

we use turbo tax, have for the past 3 or 4 years. It has been my favorite.

Got the bad news last week, we owe just under 15K this year.

What is really "fair" about taxes ?

I did a online draft @ Turbo Tax and it did not allow me any deductions for losses from hurricane IKE, I work for an employer that takes deductions from my pay so I use the short form.

TT said that I could have back 30% of what I paid in, which amounted to about $1400.00, and the service was FREE ! ! !

Some co-workers convinced me to go to H$R Block so I did ............

They allowed me a couple of grand in loss deductions from the hurricane which got me to $1600.00 refund and charged me $185.00 for the service .......

I am not a cpa or close to it, but, I think I will be using TT free from now on !
