Jeep is completely stock
My corner guards just came in and I am going to replace taillights also. Having trouble deciding to go with the original square or new round flush mount tail lights(trailer style). Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated.

While I love the "old school" look of the original square lights, I felt they were just another protrusion and could get snagged and torn off on the trail. I went with flush mount LEDs and am very happy with them.

Old school square. If you plan on keeping the cj original. Its a cj not a trailer.

Good point, think i decided to keep square style

You wont need to worry about a license plate light with the square ones.

If you want leds you can get square ones. Rod

I try to avoid anything that requires cutting new of different holes in the sheet metal. :D

Does anyone make a thin LED bolt up replacement? Ideally I'd love the original square boxes, just like, 1/2 inch thick.

For those of us tight or wallet, or just want to keep our CJ's as factory lookin' as possible, I ran across this tip and I've got to say even after several years now it's holding fast and I get comments on how bright my taillights are...

I agree, I really like the look of flush rounds lights, but can't talk myself into hacking on something vintage. I could never put wrangler flares on my cj either! Wranglers are jeans and a cj is a jeep:D . Surely someone makes a ultra compact or something that will replace factory lights without cutting?

Thats a great mod. to do and cheap which always works! He used silver or basic reflective tape so I know you can get reflective tape in orange or red. ;), I noticed the tape made the brake light have a white shade to it and the red should help with this to keep.it reddish as the left light in pics. Someone checked temp rating too so the tape doesn't melt under illumination. Thanks for.sharing that turbo.

I put these on wife's 78 CJ7 kinda spendy though . they use stock bolt holes no need to drill a big hole they are l.e.d alsoORO Off Road Only LiteDOT Jeep LED Tail Lights

If you have the cash, I didn't see a price on the link provided but I would spend the money on these for sure. Site states as papa that the kit requires no drilling or cutting.

Thanks for the link, sounds like a good cheap way to get a little more light.

While I love the "old school" look of the original square lights,

Now that makes me chuckle, old School to me are round lights down by the bumper .... well there wasn't really a bumper down there. My Jeep should have the "Old School" round lights, but some new wave punk put the square ones on her. I like the looks of the LED round lights, looks a bit retro to me.
