did I do this right?
I posted this in another forum but haven't gotten any answers yet. Maybe I will have better luck here. I have a 1973 Jeep J2000 pick up. I just had the Transmission and Transfer Case rebuilt and sealed. I pulled and installed both. It's my first tranny installation but I am pretty sure I followed the manual. So I tested the vehicle today and these are the issues that I am having
first...how much tranny fluid do I use. I am up to 11 quarts and I still don't see it on the dip stick after I warm up the engine and tranny for a bit. I do see a little fluid on the tip of the stick. When I installed the torque converter it seemed to have fluid in it when I pulled it out of the box. How many quarts does it take to fill up the tranny. The tranny is a Hydromatic 400.
second...I took the vehicle for a test drive and it seemed to really bog down. It almost seemed like the 4L wheel drive was engaged though the wheels were not locked. I shifted the floor shifter to Neutral to see what this would do. The vehicle did not move at all. I shifted the shifter on the Column to drive, 1st, second, reverse and still the vehicle would not move. I then tried to shift the column shifter to Park and the gears started grinding so I stopped.I then grabbed the floor shifter and shifted that back to 4L and the vehicle was able to move again. It would also move when shifting to 4H and 2H but the shifter lever seemed like it was loose at those two gears.
I thought maybe it reels really bogged down because I still have not installed the exhaust system yet. The only thing coming off the engine is the headers. Do I need back pressure for the engine to run properly and get up to speed? Does the 360 motor and TF400 tranny require back pressure to run properly?
