Is disconnecting the sway bar from the arms that connect to the spring plates as easy as it appears? I can't get the top one out to save me...

That's pretty much it-
Took my sway-bar off, the day I drove my Jeep home from the dealer in March of 1985.

If there is a load on the bar it could be a problem, make sure the CJ is on a flat surface. A shot set of oem springs could also put a load on the bar also.

I'll try to get a pic posted tonight. I have it soaking in PB blaster right now, I may have to add some heat to the sway bar.

STILL no luck on this top one. Does anyone have any ideas?

:)

That bolt is tapered and more than likely frozen in the socket......your just not able to get enough force or leverage in that position ,because of the rubber mounting, If you have a 10 pound sludge and a friend around to back it up then beating on it with a brass hammer may well work , or a two jaw puller or a tie rod puller may help if you have one that will grab it correctly........I normally cut them off with a cut off wheel.......unless you want to reuse it.

:D:D:D:D

If you are planning for a permanent removal, you could just loosen the four bolts for the upper bar. Then throw it in the trash like most guys do. Looking at that pic it does appear that there is a load on it though.

I think I may just use a wheel on it then get a set of disconnects. Very frustrating.

Thanks though folks.

Might try a pickle fork to pry it apart - or a torch to burn out the bushings. Brute force.

Just pulled mine, took a pickle fork.
