Is the oil pump shaft lined up?

Same distributor you took out of it or new one?

What kind of distributor?

When the distributors out and hole clear you can look down it to see a slotted shaft. Is this lining up?

Sorry if you're already aware, i know it took me a few timea of trying and turning that shaft with a long flat head to get it all right.

Did your new distributor say anything about shimming the gear?

Im not too familar with that distriburor, others will poat hopefully soon.

the oil pump shaft does line up. it close but misses just enough to be a oil leak

Does the shaft length match your old dist?

I always run a felt gasket under the dist but .04 may be a bit more then I would use.

I bought a Proform and returned it for a Summitt version of the HEI because it interfered with the P/S tank. The summitt one gave me no problems. You do need to have gasket and perhaps spacers as you need some play when distributor is tightened down against timing chain cover.

When I replaced the timing chain in my 74 AMC 304 last summer the gasket kit contained a dizzy gasket that was as thick as the rest
