I have been looking for some roll bar tube off and on for a week or so. I have found a supplier that will UPS deliver it to me in Dallas for about $5.50 a foot. This seems like a very good price maybe I am looking at something wrong but it's less than half of what I have been finding. I know one or two of you have some experience with this or ERW tube, which I have been able to find none of.
any feed back guys??:D

I got it alot cheaper than that right here in Texarkana. Ask around at some auto parts stores where do the dirt track guys get their tubing from.

You'll have to shop around. I was quoted $7.50 ft at one shop, bought 90' for $4.70 at another. I'm sure you could find it for less as well.

the tube itself is 4.45 /ft for 3@8ft or 24 feet total. the other dollar is shipping. I just can't believe I can't find a supplier in Dallas Tx.:dunno:

You didn't specify the size your looking at so I used 2"x.120" which is a common size for roll cages, and I checked 3 different website and got anywhere from $6.17 to $8.73 to $13 per foot. Now I didn't go thru their checkout to see if that included shipping or not.

I personally went with hrew since it's cheaper and I got a front hoop, extensions to the rear hoop, and a dash bar from extreme custom fab.
Roll Cages , roll bars , CJ Roll Bars, CJ Add On Cages, Front Cage add on, bronco roll cage, bronco roll bar, 66-77 bronco, early bronco roll bar, early bronco roll cage, roll cages, roll bars, dom , d.o.m.,willys,roll cage tubing, roll bar tubing, Y

I did come across a site that you might like (note the name)

I am using 1 1/2 X .120 wall. It is not so much an all out Roll cage as much as a point to hoist my Gluteus into the seat from. the $5.50 a foot is looking better and better.

IO, The site PaRenegade posted is the one I got my kit from and you would be a hero to duplicate the bends they make, prices are very resonable too.

When I was in Fort Worth I had good luck with Norton Metals. It's on north Loop 820 near 35, just off Blue Mound road.

this option is still on the table.

Oh yea, whats with this IOport racing ripping me off like that!!

Maybe you could work a deal, you don't sue for name infringement and they give you some free tubing!:D

I can just barely figure out how I came up with handle, His use of it makes no sense at all.:dunno:

I hope he uses it in good health and does not try to sue me for infringement.:D

I used to use HREW almost exclusively, but then I realized how much of it I was replacing because it got beat up. DOM is much stronger and doesn't dent or bend as easily.

Whe I started my business I called around to see who could get me the best price, and then I opened an account. For 2 x .120 I pay around $3.75 to $4.75 per foot, depending on steel price (since it is a commodity). My point is, call someone and open a COD account. You'd be surprised how quickly the price comes down.

Dont use DOM (drawn over mandrel) it is very expensive pipe/tube used in specific applications...I am planing on using 2" schedule 40. it has an OD of 2.375" and a wall thickness of .1540" and is commonly available and realtively cheap.

^^ but not nearly as strong. Not made for roll cages, in fact, illegal for any official race circuit.

would schedule 80 be more appropriate or is DOM the only option?

No

There's a reason the tech inspectors don't allow pipe - it's weak.

1020 DOM vs. 4130 chromoly

HREW tensile strength = 30k psi – 40kpsi
1020 DOM tensile strength = 70k psi – 80kpsi
4130 chromoly tensile strength = 90k – 93kpsi
pipe tensile strength = 30k psi

But more important is the yield strength

Pipe 30kpsi
Hrew 45kpsi
1020 DOM 70kpsi

Pipe is weaker. You decide if this is the place to be cheap.

I had no idea the differences in capacity. Thanks for the education.

One way to remember the diff. is that pipe is for flowing things inside and goes by inside diameter. Tubing is for structural support and measured by the outside diameter. You go tubing outside in the creek, river, etc.
Pipe and Tube are two different animals and also use two different benders.

How do you float on tubing :D do you make a raft out of it? Lol :chug:
