i want it to snow. last winter the 4x4 didnt work in the jeep so i never got to take it out and play in the snow. the jeep sat through two or three floods before i got it and the locking hubs where rusted inside. so about march i picked up some warn ones off of flebay put them on and it never snowed again.

what are some things i should know about playing in the snow. i know ill have to brake sooner is there anything else i should look out for. if i go off road, ill only go with some of my other friends with 4x4s to be safe and not get stuck all by myself.

Thats the most important part.

Just bring some recovery gear and have fun.

I don't drive in snow or ice very much at all, at worst once or twice a year and when I can I just stay home. BUT the two things that I have noticed in the CJ on ice or snow are 1) going is pretty easy, it's the stopping part that gets a little exciting. 2) short wheel base vehicles swap ends REALLY quick , this is also very exciting!

On those rare occasions it snows/sleets and the roads get slick I am always impressed with the number of 4X4 vehicles in ditches, I believe they think the laws of physics don't apply to them when they shift into four high.:driving::oops:

I know your talking about driving off road in the snow and I kind of wish I had some experience to share on the subject I think it would be fun, at least until my feet got wet and cold.
I hope you get your wish for snow and please let those of us who are "unfortunate" enough to perhaps( with any luck) never get to try it know what you learn.:punk:

You didnt wish hard enough. Your snow only made it as far as Pa. Thanx.

Some other things, keep the pedal to floor the whole time and see how far you can get in deep snow!:D dont go 70 down a snow packed road with a curve in it you will end up in a ditch! lol just have fun and learn from experience!

I have to ask...

What is this 'snow' you speak of?
you know, it is the stuff we go to the desert to avoid

Snow is a blast! Add a snow shovel to your recovery gear! Be carefull of what might be lying underneath the snow too! All those things that your used to being able to negociate ahead, suprise you as you hit them.:wtf:

Some good info above.

I absolutely love playing in the snow. Bikini top and half doors is the only way to snow wheel. :punk: On road driving can be tricky as stated above with the short wheel base. Do you have a locker? Those suck for street driving. You have to be real careful on the street when it is slick if you have a locker. Things can get dicey, just take some hot laps around the neighborhood first and get a feel for how the jeep will act in the corners. Speed is not your friend.

For the off road side of things a rear locker is almost a necessity, and a front is preferable. In the soft stuff 1st gear 4-lo and just let the motor idle. As soon as your forward progress has stopped, push in the clutch and back out of it and take another run with a little throttle to get you through the rough patch. If you stop again just repeat. Full throttle assaults get you into more trouble than its worth.

Be prepared to stay the night. If you break on the trail you will want something warm, food, water, etc.

Tow strap, winch if you got it, or come along, tree strap, length of chain, fluids, tools, shovel communication devices, and a buddy.

Most importantly, have fun and always go with a buddy. :chug:

CJ, it took me a second to understand the concept of "snow" as well. Then, I remembered. It's the stuff that causes every school in the state to shut down, grocery store shelves to quickly empty, and news casters to exclaim blizzard, even if nothing accumulates! :)

Gotta love Georgians and their interpretation of SNOW! LOL

Preferably a buddy you don’t mind sharing a sleeping bag with.:o

My sleeping bag buddy doesn't like the cold, she will only go on warm dry days. :D

It's a lot like that in southern Texas too, but up in the panhandle they are use to it.;)

got some snow today not a hole lot. one thing that scared me at one time was i had my wheel cranked to the left and the jeep was going right. i was on the gas when i was doing this. now i know not to do that anymore lol.

A good note for slick roads is " No suddent movents", unless your in a area that it doesn't matter. Brake early & gently, turn easy, no jerking the wheel, and accelerate the same way. Give pleanty of reaction time as well.
I love to go out and play as well, but :dung: happens real quick!
As mentioned, go with a buddie, let others know where you are going, bring extra water, food, clothes, winch or come along, etc..
Have fun!!:chug:

Your wish is coming true, we are getting some snow today. Remember if you go out and play have fun and we want some PICS.
