1980 CJ5, 350 V8 with a 4-speed manual
I've had this CJ, 1980 CJ5 with a 350 V8 and 4 speed manual, since March of this year. Bought it and immediately drove it 3 hours home with zero issues. Have only put a little bit of engine work in to it, spark plugs, air filter, etc., but I want to do more. I just don't know where to start. What was the first thing you did to your CJ after you bought it?

Drove it and enjoyed it a lot, and changed the oil regularly and now with over 235,000 miles the engine still runs great. I never thought I would get that many miles out of it. :)

Take it out and have some fun with it.

Don't 'fix' what ain't broke.......
What are your intentions for this Jeep?
You should go through it, and change ALL fluids.
Then do a brake inspection, and check the coolant hoses & belts.
A new fuel & air filter would not be a bad idea.
Start a log book on what you do and include date/mileage and PN's used.
Keep ALL receipts.
Think about a full cage---:notworthy:

:ww: Welcome to the sickness...... No cure, ya know!!! Beautiful ride, by the way.......

And to answer your question - I completely disassembled mine. Not the most enjoyable thing I've ever done. I agree with the others - drive until you need to fix something.

I haven’t seen these tail lights anywhere before, is this something the PO did, or a special model?

It's something the PO did.
