door locks on a cj5

I take it, you have some type of aftermarket hard top & doors on your rig? If so try posting some good pictures of the doors. Maybe someone will have some ideas for you.

as far as i know, the doors are stock.. i have a soft top on it, and the doors are "soft" also.. but they dont have locks on them.. the jeep was given to me as a gift from my grandfather... so im not sure what all it has on it.lol
ill try to get some pics for you soon...

They don't have lock's on them because, A) You could just unsnap the top & gain access anyway.B) You could use a pocket knife & cut your way in.C) The door catch is flimsy enough to bend & gain entry.

true.. so basically the only to gain security would be to put a hard top on it, and new doors.. all right well thanks for the help. happy jeeping.

The absolute best way to keep anything from getting stolen out of a soft top (anything) is to NEVER leave anything in there of value. Or in some areas, anything at all, cause some people will just take a knife to the top to see if that shiny trinket might be worth something. And its never worth what a replacement top will cost the owner!
The second best way is to use a armored console and make sure its bolted and welded to the truck, and keep it locked. You might lose the top to a knife, but at least your valuables will be safe!

Locks on a soft top are just a way for thieves to make you spend money... Snaps and a knife win over vinyl every day! :)

A hardtop and doors for CJ5 's are getting few and far between, and if you do find one they usually aren't cheap. I have to agree with mylittlecj5, invest the money in a good tuffy, or similar, vault console.

I've seen some nice boxes either bolted in(pre-made), or welded in custom. Of coarse that kills the back seat. Though I remember a small box that would fit in back with the seat bolted on top. About 4"thick.

I had a rear box on my CJ before I tore it apart and will again. A padded top, all steel and aluminum and a this time will have a killer sound system... :)

i am planning on custom making my own storage lock boxes.. i was just wondering about the doors...
anyways here is a pic of them... not that it matters anymore.

ps.. dont mind the brothers...

The only thing worth stealing in mine is a muddy snatch strap:confused:

ya, i dont have much in mine...just a cheap headunit a couple of walmart speakers to keep me occupied when camping out by the river. but its the jeep in general i want to protect from theft...

Nice"5"!:chug: FYI definitely not the original top! A real nice one though.

haha really?? thanks man! ya, like i said previously, my gpa gave it to me for graduation.. so im not completely sure what all is done to it right now.lol
thanks for the compliments tho

And that is about the only thing you can protect... A lock will not keep a thief out but a kill switch will deter them!

Would you be willing to add one? They are quite easy to do but given time, even a good kill switch can be circumvented...

Cheap insurance if you ask me... :)

I've had good luck with this method for over thirty years. It's tough to drive without the key to this hardened steel bad boy.101_0055.webp
