Ok, so I've been having trouble with getting rid of a off idle bog when giving a little throttle. I know this normally means lean. So this morning I took the carb off to check things out. I found the float bowl almost completely dry. Then I cranked it over fuel pump (new) seems good. So a. the float and needle and seat won't let fuel in. B. It's leaking out over night. Any other possible causes. It's a stock 1979 AMC 304 with stock carb. & fuel pump. Would the power valve do this? I put a complete kit in it so the powere valve is new. (It's not leaking externally)

A follow-up question, Do I dare start it up with top off the carb? So I can see what's happening?

Ok so I cranked it over without the top of the carb on, it filled up and the float/needle and seat stopped when it got full so that's ok. Now what?

It could be a problem with the accelerator pump. If it is leaking, it can drain the float bowl. Since you did put gas in the float bowl, look for it to start leaking out.

When was the last time it ran? It could be evaporating out of the carb

When was the last time the carb was rebuilt?
When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

The jeep had been driven the day before, it had a kit in it a year or so ago but never had fuel to it until about a month ago. I'm just finishing up a nut and bolt frame off. I hope I answered all the questions. John

Also new filter and pump. I'm going to pull the top off the carb. this morning before trying to start it.

My CJ is my daily driver. And all of a sudden a few weeks ago, I am having the empty bowl issue after leaving it sit for a few hours. So now, every morning and every evening I have to put a little fuel in the carb to start it up. But I am going to yank this Holley 4 barrel off and put on the Sniper EFI. Just need to save up for it and find a good few days to install it.

Well I seen to have it cured I tore it apart again and tightened everything I'll let it set a couple of days and see if it behaves

I'm getting ready to buy one also, p# 550-858. Which one are you getting ?

Not sure. Not the massive CFM one. Probably the smaller one. I think the total was 1,249 with the fuel kit with it. I was thinking of the one for the CJ, but I would have to find an intake as well. Might as well just get the one for a 4 barrel. 550-511.
