My dumb@#$ threw the instructions away for the distributor. All I really need to know is what do I do with all that wiring that goes to the old distributor? I'm going to run a new hot wire for the dui unit. I guess the coil can come off too. I have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . It just seemed since the fender was off now was the time to install it.

I'd just put a plastic bag around it and zip-tie it closed. That way if the DUI goes out or you want to change it back to stock for some reason, the wiring is still there and good to go.

I just put a HEI distributor in mine and I threw all of that old stuff away. I just ran a power wire from the ignition switch to the dizzy and also a wire for the tach. It's up to you. Since all the old :dung: on my CJ was junk, I just took them off and tossed them. I wanted a clean look.

I just put a CRT HEI Distributor in. I took all of that junk out and eliminated the Module, Plugs and Wires all together. I ran an Ignition Wire to a Relay and then powered the HEI through the Relay, this ensures that you get Full Voltage to the Distributor. Yes you also get to eliminate the Coil. Don't forget to check the Gear to make sure that it isn't hardened, just try to drill into the Gear (or check with a File) --no more than a dimple is needed to check. I was able to take the Gear off of my old Distributor and get a Bushing Machined to adapt it onto the new Distributor.

I had to replace my Tachometer as well since that wiring wouldn't work with the new distributor. I think that it is a Rugged Ridge replacement and it looks very similar.

Amazing how many wires, sensors, relays and hoses can go away with a couple of up-grades.

Well on mine, I pulled the entire 4 wire harness you have pictured out from the computer box in the inner fender(other end). You use none of those 4 wires. The connector coming out of the firewall and plugging into that box has a red wire and a blue one. The red is a full 12 volt and can be spliced and connected directly to the distributor. The blue and as I remember green return wire, can be taped off and left in the wire tube.

I love my DUI. Two wires , switched batery and tach and your ready to roll.

Myself, I prefer this Idea ^^ Like he said, if ever there is a problem, plug and go... If the old stuff was still operable, you could at least save it all together in a box :D

If you want a simpler / cleaner look in the engine compartment (and who doesn't...) go ahead and try to carefully remove or tuck things away you no longer need, but (and I'm not knocking the rest of you by any means) I wouldn't just rip it all out unless it was totally screwed to begin with..

my 2c

When I did mine I just bought a complete used harness off ebay and modified it to what was nessicary for the current set up and put that in, save all the factory stuff together in the raffters in the garage, for a future build or if I ever want to go back to factory setup.
