electric ground point

electric ground point
The .45 Colt and the .45 Long Colt are one in the same.

For the ground point I just used a brass 3/8" bolt for the main grounds and then a smaller 1/4 brass bolt thru the firewall. IMG_0646small.webp

The way I see it, all this stuff about adding additional grounds to the CJ is to convert from using the poorly conductive sheet metal and cast iron to copper wire which is quite an improvement. There are many ways to accomplish this. The most critical would be connecting the black wire from the icm direct to the battery negative.

Yep, agreed. Like many older cars they relied way too much on the ground circuit being returned thru the body's sheetmetal and the frame. Tying dedicated ground wires back to the end goal (battery) can only improve electron flow. One of those 8 ga. wires runs to the rear of my frame to a post I welded to the frame, to group any dedicated ground wires to in that area, ie: backup lights, fuel sending unit, taillights, etc.
It's a cheap fix for potential issues and brighter lights. And a stronger engine spark.

just throwing this out there. the ground always seems to cause the most of the electrical problems in the cj. so i was thinking that if i got a strip of metal ran a wire to battery negative and then grounded all the circuits to that strip of metal and mounted say under the dash, it would solve alotta problems. or maybe not? any other ideas?

Had the same thought for my '80 CJ7 . Fixed the problem with the two attached PICs.
