energy plant just blew up

I thought my house was going to fall over the explosion was so powerful. It looks like It's going to be a bad scene. Life star has been flying back and forth over the house heading to Hartford hospital.

Fatalities and dozens of injuries are reported at a power plant explosion in Middletown Sunday morning and emergency crews said they are operating a search and rescue operation through the rubble.
Officials tell NBC Connecticut News there have been fatalities, but they aren't sure how many people were killed.
The explosion happened around 11:30 a.m. at the Kleen Energy Plant on River Road, a 620 megawatt gas-fired power plant. The main building was levelled in the blast.
Gordon Holk, general manager of the plant, said he was enroute to the plant and did want to speculate on the number of injured.

People Durham, Wallingford, Middlefield, East Hampton and as far away as Madison and Old Saybrook reported feeling the explosion.
51 people were working at the plant when the blast happened. Rescue crews are now searching through the rubble to locate the injured.
Black smoke was seen billowing the plant along the banks of the Connecticut River.
Mutual aid was called in from the surrounding towns Durham, Haddam, Middlefield, Cromwell and Berlin. Lifestar has been called to the scene to transport the injured.

The news is mess, as usual... But at least 2 dead, and as yet an unconfirmed number hurt. Depending on which sensationalizing media you listen to, the number is between 50 and 100, one mentioned 250, but i believe that to be a lie. During full week day shifts, there can be as many as 300 workers there, and I bet they just spit out that number. It's still pretty hectic there, and SAR teams are going through the mess.

My mother inlaw just told us about this. she goes by there on her way to my house. that is crazy. Weren't they testing this station get get ready for usage? It is a brand new plant right?

Yeah, It's still under construction, and was scheduled to start up this summer so It's not operational yet. They have been pushing like crazy to get it on line, I don't know what hapened, but It wasn't good...

Residents have been reporting the damage caused to there houses by the concusion of the explosion. Apparantly one guy had his new garage door get sucked right out of his house and another person has cracks in the foundation of a newer home and the walls are cracked. Thats pretty crazy stuff right there.
