OK. I am new to Jeeps. I have always enjoyed them, but finally bought one. I got a 78 CJ7 with a 6 cyl. Is there an easy way to ID what 6 cyl is in the Jeep?
1982 Jeep CJ-7 350 Chevy V-8, SM-465 4-speed trans, Dana 300 Twin Stick, Narrowed and locked GM 14 bolt rear, Narrowed and locked Dana 44 front, 38.5" Super Swampers. Fiberglass tub. 6 point roll cage.
It is most likely a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I-6 engine. There was a AMC 232 i6 I-6 offered as well, however I'm unsure as to what year they stopped using the AMC 232 i6 . I had a 76 CJ7 with a AMC 232 i6 . The most popular engine in those Jeeps was the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l though.

Yes it will you will need a copy of the fsm for the 78. There also is a tag inbetween the #2 and 3 spark plug I checked my fsm for my 1986 CJ7 and in it says if the middle letter is a c it is a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I'm not sure if this is the same on later modles but should be. Heres a link for more info. www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/1978-cj5-cj7-1015499 .
