First, I don't have a
AMC 304 ...at least, this year...but having gone down this road before...
First, EXACTLY what do you want the motor to be able to do? That is critical to BEST choice...
Second, are you doing the work or subbing it out?
That said, here's my ALL-AROUND formula:
RV torque cam, hi-lift dual pattern, around a 252 duration
Dual-plane intake
Holley 470TA or vacuum secondary 600CFM
Short tube headers with crossover and dual exhaust, 2 1/4" pipes
No CAT converter (if allowed)
No EGR
MOBIL 1 HIGH MILEAGE or DIESEL TRUCK C-4 or SL rated oil ONLY!!!
GM Chevrolet HEI (dead, plain stock!)
Spiral core plug wires (DUI or BELDEN)
Excellent 3 angle valve job
160* thermostat
Now read a lot and get your tuning skills up to par to tweak the motor...have fun!
