1983 cj7 , six cylinders , 5 speed , 2.5 inch skyjacker suspension lift , 2 inch body , 35 x 12.50 x 15's ,one piece axles , just bought this cj after PO stored for the past 25 yrs ,
PO had a new Jasper six installed. It has less than 10,000 miles since replacement. Anyone have any experiences or thoughts on these motors.

they went through a spell years ago (15+) of some reliability issues.. the fact that they are still in buisiness.. tells me they're quality control has come a long way.. with that said.. i dont pay attention to mileage or who built it. for its yours and you cant change that.. so if its holding decent oil pressure.. it doesnt make any noise. blow any smoke. and if you pull the dipstick and the oil doesnt sparkle.. well i think your in pretty good shape.. lol i wouldnt worry.. drive her like you stole it... :chug:

I agree. We used to get some of our engines from Jasper (used to be an auto tech). What you can run into with these big reman companies is an engine with mismatched parts. I've seen engines with mismatched pushrods, loose rockers, etc. Don't recall having any problems with Jasper and I know our service writer wouldn't have used them if their warranty wasn't good. Typically any problems would have surfaced by now.

Might throw any oil change at it (unless you know the PO did a couple in the first 1000m) but other than that I wouldn't worry like 79 CJ said.

I am a mechanic for a company that buys about 10 I6 Ford engines a year from Jasper. For the most part, they do just fine. We occasionally have a bad one but the problem shows up right away and they exchange it.

Thanks for the information. I have the original reciept from the PO. He had the new motor installed in 2006. Only 8000 miles since install. It seems to run great with no issues.
