Engine smoke

While finishing up my DUI i noticed some smoke coming up out of the breather of the valve cover. nothing out the tail pipe. oil is in good shape, nice and clean, changed regularly.

any ideas what the cause is? is it reason to be alarmed?

If its only a little bit I wouldn't be concerned with it. Double check your PCV valve is working correctly. Normally a small amount of pressure is pushed out past you piston rings and creates a positive pressure inside your engine. The residual vapor or "smoke" needs to escape from some place. If your PVC Valve is blocked or no hooked up it will come out through what ever openings it can find.

If you really want to make sure every thing is right with the motor rent a compression checker and test your cylinder pressure.
