Im looking to have my frame repaired and was looking at saving some money..the weld shops obviously won't remove my tranny Transfer Case ext…so if i do that will the motor stay supported on its own… can i tow the jeep around? or will a ratchet strap to support work..what does everyone do?

No the motor will not support its self without the Transmission in place. The three support points are the right and left of the engine block with the third point being the Transmission mount. When I pull the Transmission and want to leave the motor in place I put a jack stand with a wood block under the back of the block or oil pan then pull the skid plate and tranny/Transfer Case combo. (Put a pump jack under the skid plate then pump it up a little as needed and set the engine back down down on the jack stand.) You could support the back of the motor across the frame but if you’re are going to move the jeep very far then just pull it all and you have a rolling chassis so to speak once the drivelines are out. The other option is to leave the jeep in the garage with the back of the motor on the jack stand and call a mobile welder if you can’t do it yourself.

It's about 3 miles on a flat bed to the shop...otherwise it's 300 dollars just to get the welder to my house...no welding included

:)I assume your welding in an area from the Bell housing back in and about where the Transmission is?...............you can take a HD rachet strap around the frame on both sides ( don't pinch your brake or fuel lines) and the pan and it will hold the motor up just fine........I've also used a piece of chain with hooks on both ends and done the same with no problem! You just need to fish it through.

worse things have been done with and to Jeeps, the ratchet idea works great when you are not welding on the frame. You need to be aware that the ratchet strap is going to want to pull your frame rails together from the weight of the motor and when he is done welding there is a possibility of the frame rails having a slight tweak in them. What if you support the weight of engine at the welding shop with a floor jack or jack stand and loosen the ratchet strap til he is done with the repair? :chug:

yupp i can do that…the repair will be from the front of the rear spring hanger to almost the motor mount..not much bottom of frame but mostly inner side..top and outside seem solid..ive gone over it with a hammer and chisel…this is all going to cost me probably in around 1000 dollars plus me having to remove exhaust, skid plate, tranny,Transfer Case , brake lines, possibly fuel lines, and the shop will drop the one end of the rear spring..do you guys think this is a lot of repair to do on a frame..or should i just buy a southern frame for probably 750 and switch everything over?

 if the welder is quoting you more than what you can get another frame for I would get another frame and call it a day. Also coat the inside of the new frame for rust prevention :chug: or the old one if you keep it
