Ok....so I have an 85 CJ7 with an AMC 360 running a single 2.5" exhaust with the crossover going under the front D-shaft. When I add the lift, the d-shaft is going to hit the crossover pipe. The shops saids that pretty much the only option is to run another exhaust (dual) for about $500 bucks. I am just looking for advice or any photos or options other guys have done. Thx for any guidance.

I have looked at a bunch of engine photos, AMC 304 & 360, and mostly it is headers off each bank with exhaust pipe going just outside the frame rail, muffler under front/rear seat, and exhaust piped 90-bent to exit in front of the rear wheel.

In Arizona, I'd do a junkyard prowl - there were a lot of AMC muscle iron using AMC 304 /360 blocks, and nothing ever rusts where you are.

This describes my AMC 304 setup, and the Big Boys tell me that except for stroke and bigger valves, they are somewhat the same. 360 headers may need more real estate than AMC 304 headers at the attach points, and I'd certainly like more exhaust-gas moving diameter than my AMC 304 has.

I've got duals that run down the inside of the frame to the back bumper.
The fenderwell headers are to loud for me.

If you wind up doing the fender well exit exhaust headers, and your muffler is right where you climb in and out, make sure the muffler is tucked under the body. I lost count of how many friends I had that burned themselves exiting my second jeep cj.

I prefer a custom bent in frame dual exhaust, but I will add that exhaust coming straight out the rear of the jeep can be a problem with exhaust fumes coming in the back of the jeep, the side exit exhaust before the rear tires isn't much better when your crawling or idling.

If you do duals out the back try and shoot the tailpipe in the "stock" angle away from the back corners of the cj. It seems to scavenge the best at the factory angle, and keeps the exhaust out of the interior.

Thanks for the responses guys........if anyone is running a single exhaust with a v-8 and a lifted CJ, how did you run your crossover?

Good advice there.:chug:

I to am going to run my exhaust out the side and not inside the frame rail.

I'm running stock manifolds and will come out and 90* bend between the spring and rear hanger tucking it tight to the frame/body.

Not sure if I can but looking into test fitting soon.

I don't want the pipe inside due to the fact I want the room if need be, OR, I can put collector tie-ins just after the manifolds and at the muffler removing the center section for future work if needed.

So yes, pics would be nice.
