We just returned from our last camping trip and now the CJ comes apart for it's 4.0 head/MPI upgrade. Currently the exhaust is the stock variety and ends just ahead and below the rear bumper and with the top down or the rear window rolled up the exhaust smell and eye irritation is unbearable, as I will be building a new system I was wondering if I would be better off going out the side or straight down as soon as I get past the muffler? I was also currious if anyone ever ran the cat and no muffler? Being in Ca. the cat is requirred but what about the muffler? Maybe it would be too loud anyway but any thoughts?
I know the exhaust will be much cleaner with the MPI but still going to be carbon monoxide coming in the cockpit even if not the current unburned fuel that I get.
