Pretty new to gas engines. I have no spark. When i turn on the ignition i have 12 volts to coil and 12 volts on wire going to distributor cap. I think this is correct. When i read from my negative post on battery to negative side on coil i have 12 volts. doesn't sound right to me. I guess what i really need help with is a run down of how to check everything. Also when i put my oil pump it looks to be around the 10ish postion. so im thinking i tooth off from 11oclock. but like this my rotor points back towards coil and temperature sending unit. i was under the impression that at tdc it should point towards the front of motor.

The wire from the dist should go to the neg on the coil, if you put 12 volts on the pos side of the coil you should be able to get a spark from the plugs.

after lots of reading today and tinkering, i was able to get the jeep to run for just a few seconds at a time. this is a new engine so this is also its first fire up. upon studying everything on the internet i think i have everything right. i am hopeing i just need a new cap rotor and wires. after cranking on it a long while with no spitting or spurting it will just crank and run. i was just dropping gas down the carb. i don't think my fuel pump ever picked up. gonna see if it has a screen in it or not. any way gonna keep pluggin.
