The other evening I hear a slight squeal sound and smell of rubber, followed by a slight antifreeze smell. I was only a mile from the house . I pull in the shop and raise the hood. The belt is hanging loose. Water pump and alternator look okay.
The crankshaft pulley is not v shaped like other belt guides and looks rubber.
I reach in and the crankshaft pulley is covered by a flat rubber belt , I remove it and it looks like a fan belt that would be about 4 inches in diameter and was on the crank. Now the crankshaft pulley is bare metal and the rubber belt that was broken is not there.
Question is : Does this model have a rubber belt guide on the crank pulley , when I google pictures of Jeep crankshaft pulley nothing but metal pulleys show up.
My motor is the AMC 232 i6 I 6 .
Its not uploading my photos for some reason .
I may need help figuring this one out I thought all fan belt guides were metal.
I can post pictures shortly.
