Can someone give me a ballpark number on how much I should expect to pay for repairs and a paint job on a CJ7 fiberglass tub? It has some pitting and one of the vertical bars on the grille is buster but otherwise good physically. I want a decent paint job but i'm not going all out either. How much have some of you paid for a full repaint?

Can't say for a cj but my WJ paint job ran about $1800.. So I would think less then that. Should only take half the paint and be really easy since every thing is flat. Some times a shop will go e you a discount if you do some of the prep work yourself. Remove all the lights and trim, if your gonna have em paint the dash pull all your gauges and trim. Remove the gasket that goes between the tub wind shield frame so they can get good paint on it and don't have to tape.. Get the idea.

Fiberglass tubs tend to be really wavy vs. stock sheet metal, so from a paint prep perspective they are more labor intensive than steel for the same end result. IIRC they also need some additives to the paint/primer for best adhesion and longevity, although in the end it probably isn't a large difference in cost for materials. Also are you going to have fenders/grille/dash removed or bolted on during the job will affect the bottom line too.
