I just searched the web , found more neg than pos answers. There wasn't any one source for the answer. I found it can be done, just have to reinforce the opening more so that the tailgate opening isn't a weak spot and leads to cracking issues. Also, the tub I was looking at sold…Not sure if I answered your question?

Most of the tailgate openings I have seen in fiberglass had a U shaped metal or plywood insert. You can't compare the strength of a patch vs all sprayed at once.
All of the aftermarket tubs I've seen w/ tailgate opening were not specifically molded with the tailgate opening in mind. I assume they just use one mold regardless of whether or not the tub has the tailgate opening option, and cut out the tailgate and then add a C-channel metal frame around it for those folks that want that.
