1977 cj7 232 inline 6,Dana 20 Tc,T-150 Trans, stock diffs.
So since i am jobless but i have tools now today is gonna be fun!

Last night i took the hood off and started on the seats. (until i froze my butt off and came inside)

So today should be a good day in about 15 mins im gonna finish the seats,yank the carpet, then start on the dash.

Then after i get the dash disassembled im gonna start the hard part....the Body tub! ill take pictures as i progress, and maybe i can get to the frame today and snap a picture of that. But it really bothers me because i sacrificed a OEM soft top and soft doors, for my tools. Who knows maybe i can still get the top.

Any incite from you guys on thing to watch out for taking the dash or tub apart?

As you said, Take LOTS of pics, especially the back of the dash!
When you pull the tub, make double and triple sure everything is unhooked before you go all the way with it. Gas tank lines/wires, Emergency brake, fuel lines, anything that can hang you up.
 
Corey, do yourf a favor, get a roll of masking tape, and use it to make little fold over "labels" to ID where the wires go, and all the other stuff you remove. Just use a pen to write a quick note like " to oil sending unit" and the like. Also, a lttle note pad to jot down notes or sketches to go along with the pictures you should be sure to take will be invaluable in the future. Good luck son!

So i got the front two seats out still working on the middle console, then the back seat, then time to throw away the old vintage carpet along with the front seats. The back seat is in really good condition so ill probably just have it redone or keep it original. Hopefully i can get to the dash tonight no big worries if i dont. Thanks for the advice mlcj5 ill probably do the dash in the morning due to Limited lighting, and well its cold ha.

Good advice here. Don't trust your memery, take lots of pictures and notes you won't be sorry.

As an afterthought. DON'T THROW ANYTHING AWAY!!! Not one bolt, one screw, or anything! Put it in a pile and save it. Trust me.

Even the tired old ripped up seats? lol and i have to replace every bolt, so i was going to keep those to see which ones i was going to have to get.
Thanks again for all the advice and ill probably do the masking tape maybe the pictures.

I was looking at the frame i doesnt look to healthy ill take pictures tomorrow so you can see what im working with.
 
I save everything but the mud clumps till the Jeep is running and registered! You have no possible way of knowing what any of the previous owners have done, what parts they used, what years of parts, or even what make. You may coppy something that was there, throw the part away, and be stumped when you go to replace it with what SHOULD be there only to find it wont fit. It costs nothing to just put it in a pile, tarp it up for a little while, and wait till your done with the project.
 
Save it all, label it all, use plastic baggies, sharpies, and take tons of pics, from all angles... they are invaluable when you need them...

After about 5-6 rebuilds, it becomes more 2nd nature, but the 1st one is tough and you will never remember months from now what goes where. Basically it will take 3X as long as you think and cost 2X as much, so days become weeks, weeks become months, months become years very easily...

This is starting to remind me of my first rebuild, A 1965 ford mustang back in 1972, 289 with a thrown rod , traded a 1948 Dodge pick up for it, The truck had a bad rod knock and turns out a broken crank. The Mustang got me through college and made enough for the down payment on the CJ. Enough nostalgia, if I had a computer and sites like this it sure would have been a different world.
Cory, take lots of pictures!! You will want to show your grand children that you had an off road vehicle with an internal combustion engine, I think they will be impressed .
I have looked at you gallery pictures and would ask if you have your camera set for "macro" ? your pictures, especially the close ones, will be a lot clearer. If it is already on macro, get a tripod or quit shaking so much,LOL.

Remember; an ordeal and an adventure are pretty much the same thing, its just a question of attitude.

Have you got a place to park inside before the snow flies??:lpopcorn:

Well the pictures were from my phone so that will due that ha but ill go get my camera from my house today and solve that porblem..And luckily i have the garage cleaned out enough at my fiancees house that i can work on it here and such. So yes its parked inside i just cant wait to get going on this thing.. I need a trouble light though haha.
 
I recommend a two bulb florescent. the LED's just don't have the right color light and there is nothing quite like having a cheap trouble light with a 100 watt bulb drop down and land on your face . :censored: Glad you have a place out of the weather and I guess for phone pictures they were pretty good.

I bagged and tagged just about everything. I went as far as to put what size socket was needed on each baggie. I used top and bottom references when applicable. I finally got back to the CJ5 a year and a half later and boy was I glad I did. And it still took 5 months after that anyway. :laugh:

Ya i was planning on doing the baggies anyway and tape the wireing sounded good also. But im gonna have trouble getting the windshield off i rounded one of my allan wrenches trying to since the bolts are so rusted... I plan on this jeep taking me till next summer easy because here is what i have planned

-Hopefully new tub ( if not im gonna get a book on fiberglass repair)
-Get the engine going and running good ( possibly carb rebuild very soon)
-Buy new fenders,hood,grille(depending on if i have a steel or fiberglass tub)
-Repair any rust on the frame (teach myself how to weld ha fun)
-Look around for dana 44s(front and rear), along with T-18 and Dana 300 Transfer Case .
-Look into a SOA kit, along with reverse shackles ( permitted i dont get the frame with reverse shackles setup done)
-New Tires and Rims(last thing i will do)
-Convert to ps and power brakes
-Rhino line the frame and tub after all repairs are made
-New wireing all around (Possibly a cd player)
-Then all the cosmetics new dash kit and everything to make it good looking
-New gas tank will be along in there somewhere.
-Most likely get new gas lines and brake lines and any other metal lines.

Basically new everything, im going to write a list of first priority to last and then go off of that, but my biggest priority now is a new body tub. Everything will be started at the beggining of november most likely after hunting season ha.
