I am extending my wheelbase and getting full width axles...and i was wondering if a SOA with 2.5 yj springs be enough to fit 43's?

What axles are you gonna run?

43's on a 5? You will definitely need 4+ on a SOA.

What are looking to accomplish? :)

i will be running f dana60/r14bolt ...the 5 will be used mostly for mud hills and mud trails, it is kinda big but theres serious rain down here and mud holes that will eat them easy

43's on a 5

Yep - that is a beast...

So, back to the original question...

An extended wheel based CJ5 with a SOA 2.5 YJ lift may be able to handle 43's - we just don't normally go that way. We usually go close to stock or just slightly modified.

Sounds like a great project though! I would ask this question at one of the extreme 4x4 sites like Pirate. :)

thanks everyone for their input...if i can get away with the 2.5 yj leaf that will be better...

I have seen where 8" is recommended for 44's. That would be close if you did the 4" or the 2.5" and added a 1" bbl.

I would think the 2.5 plus the 4" SOA would get you 6.5" plus, then add any body lift. :)

i just cant wait to see it. pics when you get started please:chug:

A friend of mine advised me as i am using btf strecht kit to go with front 3"yj leaf springs and rear 1.5 xj leaf springs...any comments about this?

yes i will post pics of my project, but i am still in the process of getting all the parts ...i will post pics next week of my V8 302 which should be rebuild by next week

The BTF kit is ok but you can build it your self for slot cheaper if you have the tools

I've been looking at doing this as well, but most people that do ditch the leaf springs for 4-links and coilovers or air shocks, and shoot for somewhere around 100"-110" wheel base. They limit thier uptravel to around 6"-8" with hydro bump stops, but down travel is a crazy number, usually 18" is a minimum, and really only Limited by the length of the shocks they use. Lift is Limited and not insane at all, most I've seen aren't much higher than my 7 with 4" and 35s, ground clearance at the frame is 23"-30" depending on what the builder likes. They are awesome machines, and crawl on everthing!

Well i know its been a long time but well at least everything coming together... Here are some pics

We are finishing the rear, ive read a lot about boomerang shackle and there are many different opinions, what do you guys think about mine? Mosr of the ones i have seen are with the v pointing the other side

looking good..is 2 inch going to be enough stretch to keep the driveshaft angle from being to sharp ??

It should be ok, btf kit is meant to be used with the stock lenght but we added a couple inches and yokes are 1410

What stops that arrangement from collapsing the wrong way?
