What generates so much heat on the tub floor that it melts sandals and stuffed animals?

Almost certainly exhaust is causing your heat issues.

Is one area worse than others, could your exhaust or cat or muffler have been pushed up against or just closer to the floor?

I like the idea of the lizard skin products but haven't tried them. If it is one place you could try to shield it.

It's mainly the tranny tunnel and passenger floor.

It’s the Cat. The rest of the exhaust will obviously add heat but Cats get wicked hot.

If you need a heat shield take some measurements of the size you need then roll through the local wrecking yard and snag one from under a newer vehicle. They are easy to remove and are usually attached to the body.

if the cat is getting that hot it may be getting stopped up and need replaced

Probably going to remove the cat.
