I've got mine mounted behind where the glove box used to be, right up near the top of the cowl. If mud/water gets up there, I've got other problems to worry about!![]()
Nope I took the stock "Squirrel's Breath" heater system out a couple years ago, after I moved to OK. Actually thought I might not need it down here (looks out the window at the snow falling...) Lots of room under the dash now. If I decide I need a heater later, I'll just get one of those aftermarket ones.do you still have your heater box in? my glovebox is about shot, so ill have to look and see how much room is there.
No ban... As I said - the bottom is open... For air circulation...well CJs can be in a box, you only need air circulation if you take the thing out for a ride.
oh no I feel the ban button coming on.
Yep the MSD 6 Offroad is submersible...What they don't tell ya is that when these go bad (like mine did very suddenly), their lifetime repair is worthless, since these are sealed in epoxy.
There are some specific ways to route the wires that will keep the box from burning up, and MUST be followed. But the instructions do not go into detail about this.
Go over to Jeep-forum.com and PM Jeephammer (or search his name or MSD-6 offroad box if your not a member). He can link you to the correct way to install this box and avoid the same problems I had.
BTW I mounted mine right in the middle of the firewall above the engine. Seemed like the best/driest place I could find. After it burned up, I switched to a Summit CDI box under the dash.
My trigger wires were run underneath the plug wires on the right side laying on the manifold (IIRC). Apparently this made my box fire almost continuously while the engine was running. There was little or no mention of this in the downloaded directions that I remember, hence my warning. I will say it ran strong and fast, tho!Make sure your distributor trigger wires (Green & Violet twisted pair) aren't anywhere near the coil or plug wires...
Run them away from other wires, keep them close to the engine block or sheet metal, and make sure they don't get anywhere close to the plug or coil wires.
If they get close to other high current wires, false triggers will make the module fire nearly continuously, and that will overheat, and eventually kill, the module.
well it will be awhile before i get the box in. its frickin snowing againman i wish i had a garage. if i ever do get a garage it will have heat and ac.
