Well i dont know how great of an idea this is but i think it would be somewhat good if you put it in the glove box thats just what i would do.

I have mine in a metal box under the dash - the bottom side is open.

i really dont want it in the glovebox dont it need air moving around it so it dont overheat?

I've got mine mounted behind where the glove box used to be, right up near the top of the cowl. If mud/water gets up there, I've got other problems to worry about!

do you still have your heater box in? my glovebox is about shot, so ill have to look and see how much room is there.

well CJs can be in a box, you only need air circulation if you take the thing out for a ride.:banana::laugh::laugh::laugh:
oh no I feel the ban button coming on.

Nope I took the stock "Squirrel's Breath" heater system out a couple years ago, after I moved to OK. Actually thought I might not need it down here (looks out the window at the snow falling...) Lots of room under the dash now. If I decide I need a heater later, I'll just get one of those aftermarket ones.

I bought the MSD 6 off road. It claims to be submersible so I will find out. mounted it to the fender where the old ECM was. I would think it should be able to handle what the stock ECM could handle.
If you still have a heater, like I do, there is damned little room for anything on the inside of the fire wall, I managed to find a 6"x6" space to mount the new voltage regulator and I think I have a place large enough for the MCD Tach adapter over under the fuse block with out interfering with anything.

Yep the MSD 6 Offroad is submersible...What they don't tell ya is that when these go bad (like mine did very suddenly), their lifetime repair is worthless, since these are sealed in epoxy.
There are some specific ways to route the wires that will keep the box from burning up, and MUST be followed. But the instructions do not go into detail about this.
Go over to Jeep-forum.com and PM Jeephammer (or search his name or MSD-6 offroad box if your not a member). He can link you to the correct way to install this box and avoid the same problems I had.

BTW I mounted mine right in the middle of the firewall above the engine. Seemed like the best/driest place I could find. After it burned up, I switched to a Summit CDI box under the dash.

No ban... As I said - the bottom is open... For air circulation... :)

Dielectric grease takes care of that problem...

MSD ignition box problems - JeepForum.com

I found this at Jeepforums.com from Jeep hammer. the only thing he mentions , that I have found, is to keep the distributer wires away from the high voltage wire. There is also a remark that the trigger wires should be ran separate from any other wires so I will run them through a separate conduit from the coil wires and tach wire. Is there something else I am missing here?

The offroad MSD6 seemed like a good idea at the time, I guess We shal see. If it stops working I at least get to send it back with a nasty note.:pissed:

Yep thats the post where we troubleshot my MSD box...I nearly forgot about that one!
Here is what I think killed my box
Make sure your distributor trigger wires (Green & Violet twisted pair) aren't anywhere near the coil or plug wires...
Run them away from other wires, keep them close to the engine block or sheet metal, and make sure they don't get anywhere close to the plug or coil wires.
If they get close to other high current wires, false triggers will make the module fire nearly continuously, and that will overheat, and eventually kill, the module.
My trigger wires were run underneath the plug wires on the right side laying on the manifold (IIRC). Apparently this made my box fire almost continuously while the engine was running. There was little or no mention of this in the downloaded directions that I remember, hence my warning. I will say it ran strong and fast, tho!
Just make sure you route the wires as he mentioned, and you will enjoy that CDI ignition for a lot longer than I did!

well it will be awhile before i get the box in. its frickin snowing again  man i wish i had a garage. if i ever do get a garage it will have heat and ac.

Thanks
It would not have been a problem as I have run the wires and mounted the box to not be even close to high voltage until it actually connects to the coil and the dizzy.
Non the less this is information I did not have and that MSD was not obvious about.

Man I feel your pain...I have an unheated shed to work in, and I do not like working in the cold...The Jeep will sit until it warms up around here! So much for a winter rebuild project!
