Build Thread Found my hot rod (project)
There are very few of these super jeeps left because they are constantly being hidden by a coat of paint and tricked out like every other jeep. The funny thing is that nobody cares  The people that get old CJ's get them because of what they are and so they can make them their own "Its A Jeep Thing"

Screw rarity and history! Im glad to see another happy jeep owner that made his jeep his own :chug

I did some looking around before I hacked this thing up and it seems that the super jeeps aren't actually worth any extra money; unless you find a Super Jeep fanatic I guess. That and the fact that it was a rusted out turd made it easy to hack up!!

I think the Super Jeep was just a trim package.

correct; just some stickers and a few emblems as far as I could tell.

It'll be much more super in a couple months anyways

Moving along, tcase and Transmission are both done and mated. Have the HD output kit from AA; just need to bolt it on.

I've posted an inquiry under drivetrain about the location of the Transmission /tcase on the crossmember. Looking for a picture from the rear that shows the relationship of the flange vs. notch in crossmember.

Plan on making a trial fit here shortly; hopefully I'll have the motor in there this afternoon.

I've attached a couple pictures of the above mentioned flange and crossmember notch.

Making some progress...moved the Transmission /tcase around about a dozen times and measured everything who knows how many times before I said good enough and started welding.

Had to drill new holes in the frame and crossmember. Might modify the crossmember a little to allow extra room for the edge of the tcase pan.

I ended up using the front ds as a guide for front to rear and side to side alignment. I put the ds in the middle of its stroke and got the ft output lined up with the front pinion.

Ford engines have the drivers side head kicked back whereas AMC has the pass side back; I realized this once my engine was hanging there and noticed the firewall. Pretty sure I'm in the right spot but I can always shim the mounts a little if I need to go higher. Def. wont be going lower.

more pictures

more progress...valve train on and adjusted

Well shes a runner! Fired on the first crank. I'll get some more pictures up soon. Should be cruising on the front axle in a day or two; still waiting for my custom cv ds from Tatton.

Can't believe how snappy it is for so many cubes; revs quicker than my last 302!!

Heres some misc. pictures of the last couple months as it came together.

Upgraded to a hydro clutch; I posted another thread about that with the part numbers to do it for @ $125.

Overall I'm really happy. Fires right up, will idle by itself after 30 seconds (HP carb so no choke) which is pretty good with such a big cam.

My main problem now is traction. I can't even get into the secondaries. It spins through 1st and 2nd just on the primaries. Good thing is that it isn't squirrely (not a real word I guess) while the tires are spinning. This is my first locker but I'm guessing that having even power dist. rather than what you get with a Limited slip lets you spin and continue straight.

I just chopped a leaf off the back which helped a little. Probably going to cut another til' I get the feel and weight transfer I want and then take those in and have a heavy duty set built.

I built a set of nice traction/torsion bars as well which I'll post a thread for that. Did it for about 75 bucks with big hime joints on both ends.

For the traction bars I picked up some 1" or 1 1/4" chromoly tubing. Just as long as it is big enough to let the end of your heim joint go into. I welded a nut onto the end for the heim. As for the end that mounts on the axle, I first picked the bushing which happened to be a left over spring bushing. Then I found the appropriate size tube, cut to length, and welded it on. Found some cool tabs at the welding store to weld onto the axle. I welded a large bolt onto the front spring perch that the heim bolts onto. I haven't wheeled it yet but so far they allow full up and down motion.

Threw in a couple pics of the headers and finished dash.

Oh and obviously that is a Tattons DS. 1350. Very happy with it. Pic at the pinion is deceiving but that is straight, not angled as it appears.

I think I'm going to pick up a set of MT 33 X12.5 slicks to run around on. I'll post up if I pull the trigger.
