In a frame off rebuild for a long time...
I pulled the dash apart for some re-wire work, so for the first time since I've owned the Jeep, I dropped the windshield. The PO had gooped a bunch of silicone on/under/around the window seal, so I assumed there would be a TON of rust under there, and I didn't want to tackle that.
But <surprise!> there was no rust at all! The seal is messed up from being on for so long, but that is an easy replacement. Much easier than repairing rust! :) :chug:

Shazam.....the Jeep Gods are pleased with you! :D

Little just kidding bout the pics, BUT Dayum you weren't kidding not a trace of rust, That rocks :punk:

 I know you were kidding! Too bad I don't have a better camera, especially with the lighting in the shop, cuz that pic sucks!

Did you replace the windshield seal? I'm attempting to do mine now, and wondering about the procedure...

Haven't needed to yet. It sealed back up good enough for my purposes for now.
I am pretty sure there is a couple guys that have done it on here, but my understanding is its not too terribly difficult. Just install the seal and fold up the windshield. You may have to persuade the windshield back with a strap around the roll bar to get the latches tight again.

Thanks, but I actually meant the seal around the windsheild itself. mine was leaking badly. I got the new seal, took the glass and old seal out, but am now trying to figure out how to put it back in! I need to change my cowl seal as well.

The way I have done this is to put the rubber on the glass and the put a strong string around were the frame will go into the rubber, with a helper start the windsheild into the frame and get as far as you can then as you push the remaining area in pull the string out as you go. There is an adhesive/sealer that you are supposed to use also but I have done without.

Ah, sorry.
The best thing I can say for that is use lots of soapy water on the seal and the frame. Install the seal on the glass, then lay the glass onto the lower part of the opening. Gently slide the seal into position on each side working from the ends to the middle. Be very careful and don't use any metal objects to pry the glass in! Just work the seal into position evenly as possible.

This an old PDF I had. It is from street2mud, I would link to the actual file but the domain is down.

OK never installed new glass on a CJ and this was very helpful in actually seeing how it is done. thanks CJ!!
