Hey guys! New to this forum and I'm liking what I see so far. Very helpful people here. I've searched for an answer to my question, but to no avail. I'm replacing body mounts with 1" lift Daystars. Got 6 bolts out, broke 3 off, and got 2 nuts a-spinnin'. My problem is with the front mount under the grill. How would you get into that section to hold the nut still, or better yet, just cut it off? I know the other ones, I can cut into the body for access, but this front mount....there's not much there to cut into. Unless I'm not seeing something. Any one else have that issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! BTW, this is a bone stock 1986 CJ7 . No mods........yet.

can you use a hole saw and cut a hole from the top ? then plug it with an electrical box cap.

I just bent the sheet metal up on mine (the flap bent over the bolt) so I could pop quick weld on it and a big vise grip. Of course I didn't care about paint... ;)

I found that once I had access to the top of the "nut" I could soak it in penitrating oil and it would actually back out.
The front one was the only one I did not have a problem with.:D

Yeah, 'CJ'. A friend told me to try bending that up, too. Seems quite invasive but I'll try it. I guess I could throw some black paint on it when I'm done. Drilling a hole sounds interesting also. I'll take a look and figure out which would be less of a mess to clean up after. Thanks for your input, guys! It's appreciated.:notworthy:

Hey CJ! That did the trick. I didn't realize it was just a thin piece of metal over the top of that nut. I bent it up about an inch or so, and there she was. PB'd it, and impacted the bolt right out. Thanks so much! Now I have some fab work to do. One of the bolts that broke off (in front of rear tire) took about a 1/2 hour to extract, and bent the hell out of the body rail. Of course, the rust didn't help much. Once that's done, though, I figure about an hour and a half or so, and I'll have all the new mounts in. So much fun!!

the square nut was just spinning in mine. my bumper covers this bracket so i wasnt worried about what it looked like when i was done. cut a hole, grabbed that nut with a pair of vice grips and the bolt backed right out.

After too many bends it broke off.

How about a little bling project on a cold Winters night? A scrap chunk of aluminum and 2 screws tapped into the bottom. A little buff and .....
