The front drive shaft on my 83 CJ7 is loose in the center where it collapses and slides together can this be fixed or will i have to buy a new drive shaft.

yours and everybody else's. At least mine is that way too. I figure I have climbed a few too many things with it and it is a bit spindly. On my upgrade list.

That slip joint needs to be replaced. I had the same problem on my CJ when I got it. I had a local shop replace the slip joint and they charged me more than Tom Wood charges for a whole new HD drive shaft.
Do yourself a favour and call Tom Wood.
Like Dave said, the slipyoke needs replaced. Any driveline shop can do this...and its not that expensive.
Nothing against Tom Woods, they are awesome, but for a stock aplication and being the front shaft which is only used occasionally....
