I just bought my first CJ5 . It is a 1979. I have a 4" lift with 33's. I am looking for suggested front sway bar with disconnects for it. What does everyone recommend?
Welcome to the CJ addiction!
While this has been discussed before, I am still in the keep or add a front bar camp. I ran without my bar hooked up for awhile, then added the JKS quick disconnects and there is a distinct difference in the way mine drives onroad. The infamous CJ dartiness has diminished to the point of almost gone, I know some will say the bar only controls body roll but I my case it did help. I had completely rebuilt my suspension front to rear before the bar was hooked back up.
I added a front sway bar to my 76 CJ5 (2.5" BDS lift, 32x11.00-15 TSL/SX tires). I used the frame mounting brackets from a CJ7 and an ADDCO aftermarket sway bar. Fairly simple bolt-on. For disconnects, I got mine from TrailQuest. However, they don't appear to be in the parts fabrication business any longer.
I have not disconnected the swaybar, as I have yet to do any off-roading with my CJ5 , so no help there. My CJ has only seen street use, and it does seem to help some. But I don't go diving into sharp corners at 50mph either...
