Front turn signal issues...

Help,

All my turn signals work great when my lights are off, but once I turn on the headlights, then the front signals don't work (rear ones do). Mechanic said something about my headlights need to have 3 leads vice 2? I replaced them about 4 years ago w/ Sylvania (stock) lamps that I ordered from 4WD or Quad-tec...don't remember there being unused leads. I have an '83 CJ7 Laredo .

Sounds like something might be going on with the headlight switch. Do the parking lights work?

You do need 3 wires to each headlight - High, Low and ground. Thanks Jeepz.com.

3 wires to each turn signal too - park, turn and ground.

Headlight switch seems to work fine (to include the rheostat that operates the interior floor lighting). Parking lights work fine. I'll pull the lamps off tomorrow and make sure all the wires are connected, and get back. Thanks for the help.

73CJ, if I'm not mistaken, the ffront flashers need 2 wires, park and flash and the casing of the light assembly is grounded to the body by the screws. I found that out because I had a flasher problem. Each headlights have to be grounded by a wire.

You are right. 2 wire to the turn lamps. My stock had a ground wire riveted to it that went to ground via the turn lamp housing mounting bolt. The headlight plug has a short black wire the went to the mounting bolt as well.

Check that all are grounded. Use a 12V test lite to check that turn lamp housings are grounded. Paint and rust can interfere too.

Do the hazard flashers work?

I dont know myself I am having issues with my right front turn signal...it doesnt work but the rest of them does.And the comes on when i turn on the headlights.80 CJ5
